Ask AI Guidelines and Limitations

Ask AI is a conversational assistant that helps you create and edit effects by generating scenes, scripts, and assets based on your text prompts.

While it can handle many tasks to speed up your workflow, it does not replace every feature in Effect House.

Like any AI tool, it is important to review its work carefully. This guide explains what Ask AI does best and what to keep in mind while using it.

What Ask AI Does Best

Ask AI is designed to help you build some of the most common types of TikTok effects, especially mini games and camera effects designed for a standard 9:16 screen.

  • Building scenes by quickly adding and arranging 2D UI, 3D objects, cameras, lights, physics bodies, and AR tracking
  • Creating interactive logic by writing APJS TypeScript scripts that make your effect interactive, wiring up Inspector fields, checking compile errors, and reading runtime logs
  • Finding and generating assets by searching the Asset Library, importing local files, generating AI images, and using bundled game-ready UI and props
  • Starting from game templates by building from proven mechanics such as tap, timing, physics, runner, quiz, randomizer, and face-controlled games
  • Building custom materials and particle effects by creating code-based material and particle systems and applying them in your scene
  • Checking its own work by taking Preview screenshots, switching preview media, and, with your permission, simulating touch interactions to test gameplay
  • Project operations by creating, opening, and saving projects
note

Ask AI output is AI-generated. Always test your effect thoroughly in the Preview panel and on your mobile device before publishing. You are responsible for ensuring your effect meets all Community Guidelines and effect review requirements.

Using Text Scripts vs. Visual Scripting

Ask AI writes text-based logic to make your effect work. It cannot build or edit Visual Scripting graphs.

  • It can read, but not edit because the agent can look at your Visual Scripting graphs to understand your project, but it will not add or fix nodes for you
  • Conversion is not perfect because if you ask it to convert Visual Scripting logic into text scripts, the results may not translate exactly and should be tested carefully
  • Projects will shift to scripts because any new logic Ask AI adds will be text-based, so using it in a Visual Scripting project can split your logic between nodes and scripts

If you prefer working with nodes, continue using the Visual Scripting panel and use Ask AI for new script-based projects instead.

Editing Your Open Project Directly

Ask AI works directly inside the project you currently have open. There is no separate sandbox or offline generation.

  • Changes happen live while the agent works
  • It is a good idea to save a backup copy of your project before asking the agent to make large changes, such as replacing a game's core mechanic
  • Only one agent session runs at a time, and Effect House must remain open while the agent works

Reviewing AI-Generated Results

  • The same prompt may produce different results on different days
  • The agent may make mistakes with asset placement, logic, or game timing
  • Always play through your entire effect from start to finish to make sure the gameplay feels right

Creating Original Content

Ask AI will not recreate copyrighted characters, music, games, or brands. Instead, it will suggest an original alternative with a similar creative direction.

Granting Agent Permissions

The agent pauses and waits for your approval before taking certain actions:

  • Taking screenshots by asking before capturing the Preview panel, depending on your settings
  • Simulating touches by asking to simulate screen taps so it can test gameplay
  • Choosing assets by showing a list of options when searching the Asset Library so you can pick one, unless you enable Skip interactive dialogs

See Ask AI Overview for details about each setting.

Building Materials and Particles With Code

When Ask AI creates a custom material or particle effect, it writes it as code. It does not use visual node editors such as the Material Editor or Visual Effects editor.

If you want to adjust an AI-generated material, ask the agent to change it for you instead of trying to edit the nodes manually.

Connecting Third-Party Agents

Ask AI connects to third-party AI services.

  • You need to sign in with your own account for the agent you choose
  • Connecting an agent shares your project files and prompts with that provider
  • Speed, quality, and cost depend on the agent and the AI model included in your plan
